I love this work so much.

Here is a short passage from Blake’s email this week! But we have pictures to share also!!!!!

Things have been going really well down here in Lake Jackson!  We have some great things going on!  We had Stake Conference yesterday and had to drive over an hour to get to the stake center (that’s what I get for being in the country haha), it was really good though.  I’m sending a few more images, i’ll try and get another disk to you today, so watch for that.  The baptism of C also with Nathan Whipple baptizing.  A fun country pic out in our area.  Two of my best friends on the mission that got transferred last week.  Elder Perez  Elder McGrath, he is one of the ones in my district  and we are each wearing each others ties.  I’m sad that they are gone.

I love this work so much, and love you so much!  Keep the work in your prayers!

The work is going really well!

Good news!  I’m staying in Lake Jackson…. and Elder Esplin is staying with me!  I’ve never had a companion stay with me this long before… but Elder Esplin and I are tearing it up, so  we are excited to see what the next transfer brings.
This week has actually been a fantastic week!  We had a baptism for C. this week and it was fantastic!    His baptismal date was Saturday, August 21st, 2010.  The man who baptized him is Nathan Whipple (the son of President Whipple, the stake president).  Nathan is like our best friend here, he and his wife take care of us and are amazing missionaries! He’s the Elders Quorum president and his wife is the stake Relief Society president… and they are like 33 and 29!  They are an amazing family!   I’ll miss them a lot when I leave.  They provide me with Pepsi on days that I’m not feeling well…. haha so you don’t have to worry I’m still getting my supply of medicine!!!  Along with the baptism, we had great things happen. We were able to find another person to accept a baptismal date, her name is P.  She is a member referral from a youth member in the ward.  The youth member wrote his testimony in a book of mormon and gave it to her and she has been really interested.  Her date is for September 18th.  I’m really excited to see what happens with her, it will be great.
The ward will be really excited that both Elder Esplin and I are staying together.  They were sad when they heard transfers were coming up.  We know that there is still something else that we have to do while we are together, so we’re going to do that.
Update on brother H.  His daughter, K, spoke in sacrament yesterday and for a girl who is not emotional at all, was in tears when she said that she can’t wait for her brothers and dad to follow her example and be baptized so that they can be sealed as a family….. she said it in front of the whole congregation!!! It was fantastic!!! My mouth as well as the stake president’s and Bishop’s were wide open, but we’re glad that she said it.  He is done with his training now and we have an appointment with him later this week with the Bishop.  We are going to challenge him to set a date right then and there and get him baptized…. we’re hoping that he felt something while he was sitting there.  Everyone else did… it was probably the best sacrament meeting i’ve seen on my mission.  Plus on top of that our investigator K (who has been meeting with missionaries off and on for the past 5 years but has been dropped several times for not progressing) has now come to church 2 times in a row and comes to our book of mormon study every week.  He’s actually progressing and keeping commitments which he never even came to church before in the past 5 years!!! He’s doing great!  It’s a slow process with him, but at this rate, he’ll be baptized soon as well!  The work is going really well!
The other elders in my district are getting split up  however, the one who causes the issues is staying…. but Heavenly Father and President Saylin must know that I’m the only one who can tame him a little bit so I guess that’s why I get the privilege of him staying in my district… it’ll be good, but pray for me!
Well that’s about it for now, I love you so much!  Tell everyone I love them!  Love Blake

Things are going really well here in Lake Jackson!

Things are going really well here in Lake Jackson!  Transfer calls are two weeks from today!  I can’t believe it!  We still have some great things happening though.  We have another baptism on the 21st for C.P.  He’s been doing fantastic.  We’ve really been able to see great things happen.

This week has been a rough week though with my health.  It started last Tuesday and has been really bad ever since.  I went and saw a dr. that is also a member and former stake president.  He thinks that I may have H-pylori.    He said that it is commonly linked with something called peptic ulcer syndrom.  We’re waiting for the lab results now.  For the first time though since i’ve been in the mission, i’ve felt like Dr. Cannon is really getting close to solving my stomach issues, or at least diagnosing it…. haha.  Sister Saylin and Sister Olsen (the medical adviser) is really taking care of me.  I’ve been talking with them almost every day.  So don’t worry, i’m in good hands.
Time is flying by super fast.  I can’t believe it!  I say that every week but it is true.  After this transfer, I only have 7 more transfers then i’ll be home.  crazy….
I’m so excited for bakini (zucchini) bread and salsa and jam that you guys have made….. that’s all I can say about that.
I got pictures that Taiden and Jaxsen drew.  They were so cute!  1 of them that taiden drew was of you and me riding on a boat through a dinosaur museum.  It was really cute.  Jaxsen’s writing is fantastic!  He’s a good little artist as well.  I can’t believe how big he’s getting!
We have our president’s interviews tomorrow so I’m really excited for that, I always look forward to my one one one time with President Saylin.  He and his family are amazing!  I know that I needed to be moved to this mission so that I can be here with them, and that they can help me through all the things I need help with.  They have really helped me grow and become a better missionary!  I’m baptizing every month because of them and what they have taught me!  It’s fantastic!
Well I better run, don’t worry about my health.  My Patriarchial blessing says that I will have the physical health necessary to live up to the callings that I receive, including being a missionary.  I’m in good hands…. the Lord’s hands.  Well I love you so much, tell everyone that I love them!  Love you so much!

Things really are popping here in Lake Jackson

We were able to finally get the “R” kids baptized!!!! It was an awesome experience!  Really spiritual.  After so many attempts, it finally went through.  President “W” (the stake president and someone that the “R’s” lived with for quite a while) paid us a huge compliment.  He told us that he was very pleased with the work we did with them and told us that he knew that it needed to be us two who taught that family.  He then turned to Elder Esplin and said that he especially was needed to help the dad  feel comfortable.  It made Elder Esplin feel really special, so it was good.  They are both so much alike that it was good for them.  We’ve built a great relationship with the family and the parents are starting to grow stronger and stronger in their faith.  “C”, who has been a member all his life but never really gained a testimony, would not stop telling us thank you.  Even though he would never admit it, I know he was truly so happy that the kids did this.  It was a really special weekend.
Update on the “H” family.  Brother “H” has been in training for work in a different state and is only home on the weekends, but they have been reading and praying as a family while he has been gone and he has been making it a priority to come to church even though he is home for short periods of time.  He accepted a baptismal invitation (which he would not even do in the past) and we are going to try and set a date this week when he returns home.
Things really are popping here in Lake Jackson.  We were able to obtain another baptismal date last night with a family that in the past has wanted no contact from the church.  The dad still is not interested but the Mom grew up an active member in South Africa.  When they moved here 13 years ago they stopped going.  The son was 6 at the time and never got baptized and really had no interaction with the church.  Now, he is 19 and has accepted to be baptized on August 21st!  He’s already come to church twice and is excited!  Hopefully a future missionary!  His name is “C”.  It was one of the most powerful lessons I’ve ever had.  We were able to implement ALL of the new simplified curriculum trainings and we saw AMAZING things happen.  It was so cool.  We even had the lesson in a members home.  Afterwards, the member gave us a call and told us that he has never seen a companionship of missionaries teach that well and give such strong commitments as we did in that lesson ever since his mission.  I know the trainings are inspired and if we will just apply them, we will see the blessings of heaven poor down upon us.
