I love the work!

Things are going great down here in Texas!!!    I am so glad that I stayed in Memorial.  I would stay my whole mission here if I could!  I love it.  Plus there is SO much going on that I would hate to leave right now.  May is going to be a huge month for us!  I can’t wait to see what is going to happen!

I truly have seen that there is some reason why I am still in Memorial.  These people need me here for some reason that I am figuring out piece by piece every day.  They have become like family to me and it will be so sad when i leave, but thank goodness that I am close enough to home that I can visit them throughout life.
A couple other highlights for the week:
Last night we went over to a members house and his father and mother were in town from Utah.  The father (President Stone) is a former mission president of the Greece mission as well as just finished being the temple president of the Manchester New York  temple.  He was a super nice man and immediately took us onto the couch and asked us how the work is going, who we were teaching, what is our greatest joys of our mission, what ways of finding we find to be effective and so forth…. in fact he reminded me alot of President Saylin!  He complimented us many times and told us that we were doing a great work.  It truly made us feel good about ourselves and helped lift our spirits.
This week we have really noticed the importance of obedience to the promptings of the spirit.  We had lost contact with “L” for a couple of weeks and he wouldn’t answer our calls and no one had seen him.  We got the impression one night this week at the same time to call “L” just one more time.  We called and he answered and he is back on track to be baptized. He was having family problems.  We also last night felt the prompting to go to a member families home that we were teaching a little bit earlier then what we planned.  We were walking through the complex and a man was getting out of his car.  We stopped and talked to him for about 45 minutes and gave him a book of mormon and we have a return appointment with him.  Many other things that have happened this week and it is so incredible to see these great things happening!  Miracles have taken place this week!
I am learning so much and am truly feeling comfortable with leading and guiding the others around me.  Our companionship is doing great.  The work is progressing and May is going to be an amazing month in Memorial North!

I love you so much and can’t wait to talk to you soon!!!

The spirit in our teaching is essential!

We had an incredible experience at the investigator fireside.  One of my recent converts, Ashley Mendiola, spoke and did an incredible job.  We had an investigator there named “R”.  Her and her husband have accepted to be baptized and are so excited.  They have seen a huge difference in their lives since they have been meeting with us and have even gotten the desire to pray more on their own.  They feel that they are receiving an answer to their prayers.  We Went to the fireside with her and she loved it.  While the ex-baptist minister was speaking about how he came to know the truth in his life, we looked over and ‘R’ was crying.  Afterwords, we were talking to her and asked her what she thought.  She told us that this has been an answer to her prayers and that she is going to do exactly as brother Hosea did and spend that time on her knees.  She then said, however, “I know it’s true.” She was so happy and looked as a new breath of life was in her.  I think for the first time either in her life or at least for a really long time, she recognized that God is directing her life.  It was great.
Elder Wilson and I are really seeing the importance of teaching by the spirit, especially using the teaching skills that we went over in the last zone conference.  This past week, for example, while we were teaching “R” and “C”, we had gone in ready to teach the gospel of jesus christ and go over their reading.  They had read, but we knew that they had greater questions.  We found out that they were not married and that conversation branched to marriage to eternal marriage to temples to temple work and ended on the spirit world.  They loved it!  “R” told us as we were walking in that she was praying for us that the Lord would work through us and tell us what we need to tell her.  and we did.  It was great.
We had another opportunity where we were teaching an investigator for the first time.  We were going to leave with her 3rd nephi 11 and something came over me and I felt impressed before I assigned it to ask her if there has been anything on her mind that has been troubling her or if she has been needing an answer.  She began to tell us that she has been wanting to know if she needed to marry the guy she has been living with for 5 years.  She has been looking for the answer to know if he is truly the one.  I then felt prompted to change the chapter and we left with her something that would help her answer her questions.  The spirit in our teaching is essential!

He truly does bring life back into this lone and dreary world

I have been really busy, but it has been great!  I can’t believe that transfers are already here as well.  We had interviews with our President this week and he told me that the brethren like the missionaries to stay in areas anywhere from 4 to 6 transfers (i’ve been here 4) but that he hasn’t been able to do that as much because of the influx of people leaving and coming.  He told me that he didn’t know what he was going to do with me yet that he was going to decide this week…. I think either Elder Wilson or I will go.  I don’t think we will be together for another.    I’ll be able to tell you on monday what is happening.  The Easter Box was great!  I got it while we were waiting for interviews, so I shared with my whole district.  They love you too!  haha

I am so glad you loved the picture of Christ I sent.  It’s a little different, but I loved it.  I love how everything is gray or black except for the facial and body features of christ.  He truly does bring life back into this lone and dreary world.
I’m glad to hear that everyone is still doing great.  I miss the girls!  It’s going to be crazy that I will be able to talk to Madi and Abi on Mother’s day.  I can’t handle it.  haha.
Our investigators are amazing!  We are going to have a baptism for a guy named L within the next week or so.  He is great.  The only hold up is that he is trying to quit smoking and keeps relapsing.  Pray that he will be able to quit entirely.  He wants to so bad and he has made great progress.  He’ll do it soon.
I hit 10 months this week… crazy.  Only a little over a year left.
Well things are going great and I can’t wait to tell you more!  Have a great week and tell everyone that I love them!

Love Blake
