Hurricane Watch

Posted in Uncategorized on August 28, 2009 by Nichole (Blake's sister)

I don’t have much time today, but I thought I would hurry and pop in for my usual I love you!

If I have learned anything this week with investigators, it’s that people’s past definitely come back and bite them in the butt!  and sometimes twice as hard.  That’s why we have to be dilligent now and not get into that situation.

We’ve had to put Tameka on the back burner right now because we can’t get a hold of her but we at least planted the seed so that’s what matters.  She’ll show up someday!  haha, we have a guy in our ward that just got finished nursing school and got a job at a local hospital, so we asked him to check the morgue for her.    haha.

My stomach’s been acting up again so i’ve been taking my medicine but if it doesn’t get better i might just go and see a doctor to see what he says.  Thank you mother and father for giving me the stomach i have… haha.

Elder BollwinkEL is excited for the hotter salsa as am I.  You may need to help dad pack it though, because after all women are the better packers… that’s how all of my stuff survived the trip!

We’re still on hurricane watch, there were a couple that they thought might come our way from what I heard but they went different directions, but it is still early in the season.  Not to worry you, but i’m sure we’ll see one this season, the water is the hottest it’s been in years so once a bad storm hits it’ll pick up.  Oh well, we’ll be protected, plus opportunities for service!

Well I gotta get going, I love you so much and tell everyone I love them!
Love Elder Blake

My First Baptism Saturday 8/15/2009

Posted in 1st Area, Pasadena, TX on August 25, 2009 by Nichole (Blake's sister)

1st BaptismI had my first baptism on saturday 8/15!  His name was ahmad akmal and we met him, taught him, and baptized him in 2 weeks.  It was super crazy, but an awesome experience.  I actually baptized him.  It was a cool experience.  I’ll send some pictures pronto! Not too many people can say that they baptized someone in their first transfer, but I did (one day short). Transfers went well, except I lost my Zone Leader Elder McCreary (the one who looks like Obama). He is a zone leader for a different zone now. He was super cool and we got to be really close friends. Oh well, we’ll see eachother again. This will most likely be the last transfer that Elder Bollwinkel and I will be together because after two transfers of training they usually move the trainer, but i’ll probably stay in Pasadena until like January (just based on what usually happens, but no promises).

So as far as Tameka goes, we haven’t seen her in a couple weeks.  She had surgery and haven’t been able to get back in with her since but we’re still trying and she still loves the gospel.  She told 4 co-workers about it and they want to be baptized too so as soon as we can get in with her, the better.

Jessica, the friend of mine from michigan got baptized so that was super cool!  She said it was all because of me, so that made me feel good that I did a little missionary work almost 2 years ago!

Tell everyone that I love them!

My 1st Baptism, and more to come

Posted in 1st Area, Pasadena, TX on August 18, 2009 by Nichole (Blake's sister)

I’m glad to hear that things are the usual there… because if I have learned anything thus far from being on a mission is that the Lord tries the faithful super hard just to help them increase that faith! Keep it up!

I got the package Dad sent with the bread in it. Everything turned out great and the bread was delicious! (Keyword on was… there is no more) haha.

Transfers are this monday so I should find out on saturday night if my companion or myself are getting transferred. I don’t think I will just because I’m still training but you never know! I’ve already been in texas for 6 weeks!!! can you believe it?! It’s crazy! Things are going great though.

Things have been going really well this week… and I get to baptize my first person this saturday!!! His name is Ahmad. He is 51 and his family his muslim. However, at an early age, him, his brother and his uncle new that the muslim religion wasn’t correct when they don’t believe that christ is of divine nature. So he’s been christian ever since. I was on exchanges with one of the zone leaders a week ago last saturday and we were contacting at a park and he came out of the bathroom and we were right there so I began to talk to him. He said that he just moved from LA and that he has been looking for a church and that he would probably come to church on sunday (most people say this so we weren’t too thrilled). Low and behold, he actually came to church!!! he’s been to church twice now and on the very second time of us meeting him we committed him to baptism and that’s all she wrote! I’m so excited to baptize him! After that for the next 3 saturdays we have a baptism… lets hope everything goes well!

One of the Elders in our zone was sick last saturday and we think that he gave it to elder bollwinkel and myself. We haven’t been feeling the best the past couple of days but we are finally starting to get back to normal after just taking it easy. Being sick is not fun when you are a missionary… haha. Oh well, the work still continues.

The ward member who was assigned to get us missionary meals wasn’t doing her job so sister dimmick took it over and she went in and took it out on the poor sisters in Relief Society… well we have a meal for every night this week… haha i guess it worked.

Tell everyone I love them and I can’t wait to hear from them! Love you lots, Elder Blake

No Time for Tracting!

Posted in 1st Area, Pasadena, TX on August 11, 2009 by Nichole (Blake's sister)

This past week has been awesome!  We are up to 8 baptismal dates for the month of august!

And for the cool story of the week:

We have been meeting with Tameka and she still really wants to get baptized.  Everyone around her has been telling her that the Mormon’s are like the Amish so don’t get into it, but she’s been shutting everyone down when they say it because she knows it’s not true.  She has been telling her co-workers about it and how happy she has been, and tonight we have an appointment with her and 4 of her co-workers are coming by and want to be taught so they can be baptized too!  I could have 12 baptismal dates by the end ofthe night!!!  Haha it’s crazy busy.  Instead of having problems deciding of who we can go see, it’s who we shouldn’t see for the day.  We don’t have much time to go tracting, which is a relief in it’s own way, because we are so busy teaching progressing investigators!  I can’t wait until I finally get able to dunk someone!

I got your package that you sent on Tuesday, early thursday morning so that way is much faster if you are sending perishable items!  Thanks for the treats!  Bollwinkel and I are getting fat… haha not really, i’m actually losing weight, but oh well!   Tell everyone I love them and I hope everyone the best!  Love you lots!
